Mt Morgan Dam No 7. (2)jpg.jpg
'View from Ubirr Rock' Collage, watercol

Finalist in the 2018 Clayton Utz Art Awards with 'Mt Morgan Dam - No 7'

Artist Statement:
Kayaking through paperbarks partially submerged by water with birds’ song and gentle lapping of water was an eerie experience yet peaceful.  All of this I have tried to capture, using charcoal to reinforce the darkness of the experience and the musical score to echo the sounds of the moment.

"Clayton Utz, is proud to support the Arts through the Clayton Utz Art Award. The Award offers a $20,000 winner's prize and exhibition space for the finalists and is awarded to an outstanding artwork by a Queensland-based artist, or an artist with a strong connection to Queensland."

Best Overall Painting in the 2018 Barcaldine Art Exhibition with  a work titled 'View from  Ubirr Rock - NT'

Artist Statement:

Following numerous sketching trips while visiting NT, a series of works based loosely on the sketches developed. This particular drawing was dealing with the great expanses of space to the horizon that I felt when standing on top of the escarpment. Collage and watercolour are starting points on which I build. Ainslie McMahon wins prestigious Rio Tinto Martin Hanson Memorial Art Award 2018.

Artist Statement:

"The drought story is something we can all relate to. Its a story of resilience, and hope of rejuventation.  I created this artwork about drought as I wanted viewers to consider this natural phenomenom in a different way.  Drought can be seen as sad and depressing, however for artists, it presents a wonderful, more low key pallette, such as greys and browns.  The challenge is to create work that references drought but leaves the viewer with a memorable and contemplative experience."
